Following completion of his naval service,
J. Christian "Chris" Dowell began his business career with the executive
search firm of D.E. Foster Partners, Inc. His career included later
stints as a Partner of The Abbott Group Executive Search and as a
Director of Recruiting with James Martin & Co, a Fairfax, Virginia
based information technology and management consulting firm.
Chris returned to Foster Partners in 1999
to serve as the firm's Managing Director in Charge of the Washington,
DC office and as head of the National Association, Non-Profit and
Federal Government Practices. In this role, he provided executive
search, management and personnel consulting services for clients nationwide.
His clients include several prominent regionally based financial institutions,
Washington based trade and professional associations, educational
institutions, and several prominent Federal agencies.
In 2002, Chris joined Gregory Frumess to form
The Breckenridge Group, Inc. Operating out of offices in Washington,
DC and New York City, The Breckenridge Group was established with
the purpose of providing continuing quality service to their existing
clients throughout the U.S. and abroad. Chris heads up the Washington
DC office of The Breckenridge Group, while Greg manages the New York
office.
Chris was born in Washington, DC and graduated
from the University of Virginia in 1974 with a degree in Psychology.
Entering active duty service in the Armed Forces, he was commissioned
an Ensign in the United States Navy. Chris completed twenty years
of active duty service as a Fighter/Attack Pilot, where he advanced
to the rank of Commander. The majority of his career was spent operating
from deployed US naval forces throughout the world.
Additionally, Chris completed an eighteen-month
assignment to the French Naval War College in Paris and a thirty-month
operational exchange assignment flying with French Naval Forces in
southern France. Chris capped his naval career with a Pentagon assignment
as a Congressional Liaison Officer and Air Specialist, during which
time he prepared congressional testimony and senior level briefings
on foreign and domestic issues.
Chris holds a Master's Degree in Business Administration and Management from Webster University, and is a graduate of the French Postgraduate Naval War College. He is a member of the New York Society of Association Executives, The Greater Washington Society of Association Executives, the American Society of Association Executives and numerous other professional associations. Chris and his wife, Holly Carter, have been married for 29 years and have four children, ages 13 to 23.
